Family ‘left in limbo’ over disappearance of golfer, 75

THE family of missing Grimsby man Michael Lee say they have been left “in limbo” following his disappearance nearly three months ago.

The 75-year-old retired businessman, who lived in the Bargate area, was reported missing on Wednesday March 16.

He made his last phone calls on the Monday to cancel a hair appointment and the newspapers and hasn’t been seen or heard of since, despite a number of appeals. Police think the keen golfer took his blue Mercedes C220, with the registration number of KO04 HTP.

His nephew Graham Lee said his uncle was “fairly outgoing, quite chirpy and a true gentleman”, adding: “There’s been endless sleepless nights with people thinking where he has gone.

“The police have explored every avenue they can think of or anyone else for that matter and come back with absolutely zilch. He literally disappeared off the face of the earth.

He added: “He’d been ill for a couple of weeks, but even that wasn’t an indication he was going to do something. He made a couple of phone calls one to me and one to my Dad to say he wasn’t very well.

“With hindsight there was probably more meaning to those calls than we realised at the time.”

Graham’s father John asked people to ring the family business, Lees Furnishers, if they didn’t want to speak to police.

He said: “Someone out there may have seen Mike recently or know where he is right now as he can’t have just disappeared without a trace.

“If the thought of speaking to the police is stopping you from passing any information on then please call us on 01472 353251 as any information at this time no matter how small it may seem could be vital in finding Mike.”

Born in Grimsby, Mr Lee is an honorary member of Grimsby Golf Club, as well as a member of Woodhall Spa Golf Club.

When he was younger he played competitively for Lincolnshire, the Midland Counties and even England on one occasion.
