Family pays tribute to ‘well liked’ Liam Parkin, 19, after two die in Sheffield crash

The family of one of two victims of a fatal crash has paid tribute to a “well liked, lovely lad”.

Relatives of Liam Parkin, from Sheffield, have spoken of their grief after the 19-year-old was killed in a crash in the early hours of Saturday in Sheffield.

A black Vauxhall Astra and a blue Peugeot 206 were involved in the crash, which also claimed the life of Joshua Fothergill, also 19, from Rotherham, in Blackburn Road at around 1am.

Mr Fothergill was inside the Astra and died at the scene. Mr Parkin was inside the Peugeot and also died at the scene.

In a statement issued by South Yorkshire Police, Mr Parkin’s mother said: “I just want to say thank you to everyone who has been there for us. He was so well liked by so many people he will be missed by us all.”

Three other men inside the Peugeot – a 24-year-old from Rotherham, an 18-year-old from Rotherham and a 21-year-old man – were injured and were taken to hospital for treatment.

Two of them have since been discharged from hospital following attention by medical staff.

A 20-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and failing to stop at the scene of a road traffic collision and has been released on bail.
