Family take top honours on home ground with bull

THE Cooper family from Dacre, near Harrogate, rounded off their show season in style at Nidderdale by taking the supreme beef title with their home bred Limousin bull.

The 18-month-year old animal took top honours at Kilnsey Show and Sutton-on-Huby Show earlier this summer but the family saved the best till last for their local show.

Mark Phillips, showing on behalf of the Coopers alongside their daughter Laura, said the bull would now head to Carlisle where it will be sold at the premier sales next month.

Leyburn farmers the Fosters took the sheep interbreed title while the dairy classes were won by Andrew Jennings with his home-bred Holstein, Abbeyhouse Gold Peach.

The animal, currently producing 12 gallons of milk per day, got the nod from the judges who remarked that it typified what they expect to see from the breed.

Mr Jennings, who farms at Fountain's Abbey, near Ripon in North Yorkshire, said he was delighted with the animal's victory in the competition. Earlier this year it was reserve breed champion at the Great Yorkshire Show.
