Family tell of anguish over biker’s crash death

THE family of a motorcyclist who was killed in a road crash have spoken of their heartache after a motorist admitted causing his death by careless driving.

Jemma Hansom, 22, from Ravensworth near Richmond, pleaded guilty yesterday at Teesside Crown Court to causing the death by careless driving of David Morse.

Mr Morse, 36, from Barnard Castle, died after his Honda bike was hit by a Toyota Yaris driven by Hansom. He was out riding with two friends when the crash happened on June 29 last year on a lane between Ravensworth and Richmond.

A statement from Mr Morse’s relatives claimed his death has “completely devastated” the family. It added: “It is also a tragic outcome for the family of the defendant and our thoughts are with them.”

Hansom, who was on trial before changing her plea, was bailed ahead of a sentencing hearing, although a date has yet to be set.
