The cousins of Anowar Tagabo, a Bradford University student, appealed for people to help police find out what happened to the 25-year-old.

He died in hospital on June 3 after apparently being assaulted nine days earlier.

A post-mortem examination suggested he died from a head injury.

In a statement, Mr Tagabo’s cousins Monsour Kitar and Bakheet Modeen said: “Our cousin and friend Anowar was a typical 25-year-old. He was a kind, friendly and peace-loving young man.

“He came to the UK for a better life for himself, away from all the war and unrest in his home of Sudan.

“Anowar worked very hard. He learnt English and went to Bradford University to study and because of his former life in Sudan, he chose to study Peace and Development.

“Anowar’s dream was to return to Sudan with knowledge that he could use to find a solution to the conflict.”

They said Mr Tagabo had been in Sheffield attending a wedding party before going to the Embrace nightclub with a friend. Sometime later he was attacked.

“Our family is devastated. His mother in Sudan is in pain and anguish at what has happened to her son,” the statement said.

“Anowar escaped from the ongoing war in Sudan. He left his mother and brothers and had chosen this lovely country to live and study Peace and Development.

“He loved people and was always looking to help the vulnerable. Therefore, being attacked and killed in such circumstances is unthinkable and beyond pain for us.”

The family asked anyone with information to call South Yorkshire Police on 101 quoting incident number 281 of May 25, 2014, or to call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
