Family tribute to 'bubbly and vivacious' girl found dead

A teenager who died suddenly was a "bubbly and vivacious young girl who lived life to the full", her family said.

Camilla Irvine, 16, was found unconscious at a friend’s home in Scorton, near Richmond, North Yorkshire, on Saturday morning.

Efforts to revive her failed and she was pronounced dead at the Friarage Hospital in Northallerton.

North Yorkshire Police said officers are treating the death as “unexplained”. An inquest was opened and adjourned on Tuesday.

Yesterday her parents, Wendy and David Irvine, and her brother George described their grief.

In a statement released through North Yorkshire Police they said: “Milla was a bubbly and vivacious young girl who lived life to the full. She had a wide circle of friends, was caring about everyone she knew and was passionate about art and fashion.

“Milla’s loss will leave a massive hole in not only our lives but those of her many, many friends.

“We would both like to give heartfelt thanks to the many people who have shown us so much support and love at this difficult time.”

She was a former pupil at Ripon Grammar School and completed her GCSEs earlier this year, moving to Richmond School as an A-level student.

Martin Pearman, headteacher of Ripon Grammar School, paid tribute to Camilla in a letter to parents which was posted on the school’s website. He wrote: “Camilla was a very talented student with boundless enthusiasm and energy.

“She always had a ready smile and was very popular with her year group where she had many friends and there is no doubt that she will be sadly missed by everyone here.”

A book of condolence has been opened at Ripon Grammar School.

Mr Pearman added: “Camilla had so much potential and her death makes no sense, but she contributed so much to the school while she was here and we are all proud that she was a student here.

“I am sure that everyone’s thoughts and deepest sympathy will be with Camilla’s family at this incredibly difficult time.”
