Family's creamiest ices scoop industry award

A YORKSHIRE family has scooped four awards at a national ice cream competition.

Charlotte's Ice Cream Parlour at Whitley near Dewsbury, run by Geoffrey and Audrey Wraithmell and daughter Charlotte, won the silver challenge cup for best in class for their ice cream cake as well as silver medals for lemon sorbet, fruits of the forest sorbet and artistic design in the national ice cream competition run by the Ice Cream Alliance.

Mr Wraithmell, who milks his herd of Jersey cows every day, said: "We pride ourselves on using the finest ingredients in our ice cream. Our cows graze on the lush green pastures in the meadows surrounding our ice cream parlour and that's what makes our ice cream special."

A Sheffield family also won an award at the competition.

Judges chose the McNeil family's vanilla ice cream as best in class.

The business trades as Joes Ices and has a stall at Crystal Peaks market hall and supplies restaurants and supermarkets.
