Fancie that – cupcake shop proves a truly tasty venture

TWO years after she opened her first cupcake shop and tea room in Sheffield's Sharrowvale Road, local businesswoman Amanda Perry is set to expand with two new branches in the city.

Former pastry chef Ms Perry founded "Fancie" in 2008, baking cakes in the kitchen of her home in Wadsley Bridge.

However, the business took off rapidly and, since then, the baking has moved to a professional kitchen in Edgedale Road and she has opened a second branch in the Winter Garden.

Currently, Fancie sells about 2,000 cupcakes a week in 14 different flavours, such as Red Velvet, Chocolate Mint, Capuccino and Snickerlicious.

Now, plans to expand the business further with two shops in Sheffield are well advanced – though the exact locations are being kept under wraps until next month.

Ms Perry said: "The business has been steadily growing since opening in 2008.

"Growing organically has meant I have been able to adapt and handle the increasing supply and demand.

"I have been pleasantly surprised at how successful Fancie. has become and I am excited about the times ahead.

"With more shops opening in the next few months I have been careful to pick places that are accessible to all and that are real 'destinations'.

"Everyone deserves a treat and the Fancie experience is definitely that. I care about my customers a lot and put a lot of passion and creativity into what I do.

"It's definitely all worth it when I see how happy people are when they try one of my mini masterpieces. I think it's that passion for what I do that helps make Fancie so special."
