Farm Watch scheme to fight crime

RURAL residents are to be asked to help catch out criminals through a new police scheme to establish a countryside crime-fighting network.

Officers from the Worth Valley Neighbourhood Police Team (NPT) are visiting farms and homes across the Worth Valley area in Airedale and North Bradford in a bid to launch the new Farm Watch security scheme.

PCSO Debbie Williams is hoping to run it along the lines of the NPT's Business Watch initiative through which shops stay in contact with each other and the local officers to share intelligence about crime issues and keep each other updated about any concerns or thieves operating in the area.

Sgt Di Collins said: "By providing us with a better communications network with our farmers this scheme will allow us to more quickly share useful information with them and also provide an extra level of support and reassurance."
