Farmer and cook put meals on the screen

The four-part programme will see them exploring recipes using the top 50 most commonly bought foods which will see them growing ingredients such as rice and durum wheat – for pasta – which are not normally grown in the UK.

The series, Nigel And Adam’s Farm Kitchen, is designed to show viewers how to get more from their ingredients and show how they reach the table.

Simple Suppers presenter Slater and Henson – known to viewers from Countryfile and Lambing Live – will be based on a working farm in the Cotswolds, run by the Righton family, for the show which will be screened next month.

The pair will also teach each other new skills as Slater learns to rear three pigs, while Henson collects tips on how to prepare a roast.

In addition, some of the produce is sold to the public to raise cash for BBC Children in Need appeal.

Slater said: “It has been a truly wonderful learning experience, connecting all the dots from farm to fork.

“A celebration of the huge effort that goes into getting our food into shops and kitchens, and meeting all the characters that make it happen.”

And Henson said: “Growing our own produce and taking it from field to fork has been an exciting and rewarding experience.

“Both Nigel and I have certainly been pushed outside of our comfort zones in this series,” he added.

Henson runs the Cotswold Farm Park, which promotes rare breed conservation, but has had a media career since gaining a role as a Countryfile presenter more than a decade ago.

Since then he has had other television and radio presenting roles.
