Fascinating colour film of vintage York races, Whitby and the Dales

YORKSHIRE’S rich heritage is to be brought to life on a new website featuring footage from major events and magic moments from days gone by.

The Yorkshire Calendar is an innovative web application available to view at , showing 60 seconds of archive film footage each week of the people, places, traditions and events that make Yorkshire so special.

The Yorkshire Calendar was designed by the Yorkshire Film Archive in collaboration with York-based digital agency Bright White, which developed the technology.

The footage used is taken from the 16,000 films that make up the collections held by the archive.

Gary Verity, chief executive of Welcome to Yorkshire said: “This is a wonderful juxtaposition of 21st century Yorkshire-developed technology with historic events from our county’s past. It will provide a great addition to our website as well as being a great source of information for our members.”

YFA’s Director, Sue Howard said “Thanks to the support of Screen Yorkshire this is the first of a number of initiatives we have been working on, using digital technologies to create new ways of connecting people to Yorkshire’s great film heritage.”
