Fashion designers join city charity show to raise India school funds

SOME of York's hottest designers are joining together to raise funds to build a school in India.

Fashion outlets from across the city are taking part in the sixth annual fashion show and meal at the Jaipur Spice in Haxby Road, York on April 15.

Designers will be showcasing their new collections and hoping to raise more than 1,000 for the Pocklington-based charity the Gian Foundation, which was launched in 2002 to sponsor the education of children and to help them earn a living for themselves in the future

Sarah Ashton, 26, who owns the Thimbelina bridal and prom wear, in Walmgate, said: "We have helped out for the show before and it is always a lot of fun.

"I will be putting out a new collection of party dresses and am very excited."

Gillian Anand, secretary of the Gian Foundation, said: "We have got four designers from across York showcasing their clothes. They are all very different and there will be something for everybody on display.

"It is the sixth year we have done the show and it is a brilliant event and always a lot of fun.

"We hope to raise around 1,000 to go towards building the school for disadvantaged children in India."
