Fashion to go bananas with art event at former fruit market

HULL'S fashionistas will be drawing inspiration from an historic part of the city in an event being held at its former fruit market.

Fruit, an artistic entertainment venue launched in a former warehouse in Humber Street – the fruit market's home for 200 years – will host the two-night party on October 15 and 16.

The Strange Fruit Fashion Party will feature a catwalk, performance art and "interactive surprises" for the audience, organisers said.

Artistic director and designer Deborah Barwick said: "The feeling of abandonment will be created through incorporating antique furniture, and decorating the space with theatrical fruit installations and creeping plants to make it appear that nature has invaded.

"Both the event and the fashion show will explore this theme, covering eras throughout the 200-year history of the fruit market."

Women's labels will include Max C, Motel, Cushh, and Shikha supplied by Bed 14 of Newland Avenue, with menswear including The

Who collection from

Lambretta.

The area is being developed as an artistic quarter since the fruit traders moved to a new home in Priory Park, Hessle, last year.

Tickets cost 10, including canaps and champagne, and are available online at fruitspace.co.uk.
