The father and brother of a woman who was found dead in a canal have been arrested in connection with her murder, a source confirmed yesterday.

Care worker Ffion Wyn Roberts, 22, was discovered last month in a canal near her home in Porthmadog, North Wales.

A post-mortem examination concluded she had been strangled with a ligature and drowned.

On Tuesday, North Wales Police said two men were arrested in connection over her death. Yesterday, a police source confirmed they were Miss Roberts's brother Elgan and father Idris.

It is believed the pair were taken into custody yesterday after an early morning raid at their home in New Street. Officers were also searching the family home and car, the force said.

Miss Wyn Roberts, who was planning a career as an Army nurse, had spent the evening of Friday, April 9, at the Union public house to celebrate a friend's birthday.

She was last seen leaving the pub at about 3.30am on the Saturday as she set off to walk home alone.

Her body was found in a canal drain later that day.
