A father has been found guilty of murdering his seven-week-old son when he was left alone with him for just 20 minutes.

Kieron Hutchinson suffered catastrophic brain damage when he was left with his father Ian Hutchinson while his mother and grandmother went out shopping.

The trial at Sheffield Crown Court heard that the defendant may have inflicted the fatal injuries out of frustration because he did not have everything he needed to change his son’s nappy.

The jury today found Hutchinson, 24, of Elizabeth Street, Goldthorpe, Barnsley, South Yorkshire, guilty of murder.

The court heard that the defendant was left alone with Kieron on September 3 last year after his wife Rebecca and his mother Georgina Hutchinson went to the supermarket.

Police said the family was not previously known to the authorities and Kieron had been seen by a GP hours before and was progressing as expected.

Hutchinson will be sentenced on Monday.
