Price and another man started punching Mr Grey, who also suffered bites to his ears.

He fell into the road where he was kicked.

Mitigating, Sophie Drake said earlier that night Mr Grey had made a lewd comment to a woman Price was with, adding; “The defendant sought an apology that was not forthcoming.”

Miss Drake, who said Price is a self-employed horse breeder, added; “He realises his behaviour was unacceptable.”

Price, of Highways Yard, Otley, admitted assault.

Recorder Toby Wynn sentenced Price to 12 months in jail, suspended for two years plus 120-hours unpaid work. Recorder Wynn told him: “You are a man in your forties with nine children.

“You need to put those children’s interests in the front of your mind at all times.

“I’m going to do that and that is the sole reason you are not going to prison today.”
