Father plans quiet day to mark Claudia milestone

The father of missing woman Claudia Lawrence is marking the seventh anniversary of her disappearance with a quiet day of reflection, according to a close friend.

York University chef Miss Lawrence was 35-years-old when she went missing on this day in 2009 while she was on her way to a 6am shift at work.

Her family’s quest for answers remains unresolved, with it emerging last week that four men, arrested on suspicion of her murder by North Yorkshire Police last year, will not be charged.

In what was a major setback for the team of cold case detectives investigating Miss Lawrence’s disappearance, the Crown Prosecution Service has ruled that there is insufficient evidence to prove any of the men in question had anything to do with her going missing.

In a statement, Martin Dales, a friend of and spokesman for Miss Lawrence’s father Peter, said Mr Lawrence was thankful for people’s lasting support.

The statement read: “Today, Peter Lawrence, Claudia’s father, is having a quiet day reflecting on seven years without his beloved daughter and asks people to remember Claudia, her family and her friends today.

“He is very thankful to the many people who have sent good wishes as it helps him feel supported as he seeks answers as to Claudia’s whereabouts. Somewhere but where - someone knows.”

A total of six people have been arrested since North Yorkshire Police launched a review of its original Claudia Lawrence investigation in 2013. Their arrests prompted a number of police searches, including a detailed re-examination of Miss Lawrence’s home in Heworth, York.
