Fears for climber, 33, missing in the Alps

FEARS are growing for a York factory worker who has gone missing during a climbing trip in the French Alps.

Marcin Kuffel, 33, who was born in Poland but moved to York about 10 years ago, travelled to the popular resort of Chamonix on December 2. He last spoke to his brother Bart, who also lives in York, the day after he arrived and told him he was setting off on a climbing expedition.

The experienced climber has not been heard of since and Mr Kuffel’s family have admitted they are now beginning to fear the worst.

A Facebook page appealing for help has been set up by Mr Kuffel’s friends and relatives, who say a large-scale rescue operation has also been mounted in France.

Last night, Mr Kuffel’s employers KHS Personnel Ltd, a recruitment agency based in York, said the factory worker had barely missed a shift during his time at the company. Branch manager Richard Hale said: “Marcin is a great guy.

“Everybody in the company is really concerned about his whereabouts and anxious he gets back safe.”

Users of internet climbing forums have also sent out pleas to help trace his whereabouts.
