Festive show by children’s choir with giant following

A CHILDREN’S CHOIR founded by a former East Hull school pupil is coming to the city to perform a new show.

Voice in a Million, along with 250 schoolchildren from Hull, will be performing An Orphan’s Christmas Wish at Hull City Hall next Tuesday. The show is being directed by co-founder of Voice in a Million Jo Garofalo.

Jo, who attended Malet Lambert School, founded the project in 2009 along with her husband after adopting two children, with the aim of raising awareness of the plight of millions of children worldwide who are orphaned, abandoned or separated from their birth parents.

Voice in a Million had its inaugural concert at the 02 Arena, in London, last January, assembling a 5,000-strong children’s choir from schools and vocal groups from across the UK and co-hosted by pop star Sinitta, music legend Rick Wakeman and other celebrities.

The choir, which has grown from 35 members to over 20,000 in two years, has also appeared on stage with Foreigner and Rick Wakeman, and Jon Anderson of Yes.

The show at Hull City Hall is part of a new addition to the choir’s repertoire, which is touring regional theatres and bringing opportunities to hundreds of local school children to take part.

Choirs taking part include Hessle High, Hull Collegiate, Kirk Ella St Andrews CP School, North Ferriby CE Primary, St Nicholas Community Primary, plus the Stagecoach Beverley and Hull and Voice in a Million Hull Academy performance groups.
