Fight for fairness

THAT Sheffield Council intends to pass a motion tomorrow, backing this newspaper’s Fair Deal for Yorkshire campaign, is indicative of the need for concerted and co-ordinated action across the region to kickstart the economy.

It is also an issue that transcends party politics – under successive governments, this region has missed out on funding, investment and other opportunities because of decision-making processes skewed in London’s favour.

And, while politicians of all affiliations have used the party conference season to state their commitment to these parts, these words will be hollow unless progress is made on 60 policy areas highlighted by the Yorkshire Post.

Yet, with Yorkshire Forward virtually disbanded, it is important that this region speaks with one voice to ensure that this county is not short-changed by the Government at this most critical juncture.
