Filming of ITV's Victoria starts in one of York's oldest buildings

The cast and crew have descended on the Merchant Adventurers Hall to shoot the fourth series of the show, which tells the story of Queen Victoria's life and stars Jenna Coleman in the lead role.

Victoria filming moves to Brodsworth Hall thanks to its preserved Victorian gardensThe Grade I-listed building is a medieval guildhall built in 1357, and it is the largest timber-framed building in the country still used for its original purpose. The Great Hall was used for mercantile activity while the undercroft was an almshouse and hospital for the poor. The Company of Merchant Adventurers still own the hall, although they are now a charitable trust, and is is open as a museum as well as being available to hire for weddings and functions.

How Harewood House became the Pinewood Studios of YorkshireVictoria is known for its strong Yorkshire connections - interior scenes are shot at Church Fenton Studios near York, and historic buildings including Harewood House, Brodsworth Hall, Bramham Park, Castle Howard, Carlton Towers, Beverley Minster, Whitby Pier, Allerton Castle, Newby Hall, Duncombe Park and Wentworth Woodhouse have all appeared in the 19th-century series.
