Final call for plans blueprint comments

Harrogate Borough Council is at the final stage of consultation on its emerging local plan which will be used to manage development for both homes and businesses in the district up to 2024.

It has recently published its sites and policies document for the whole district which makes allocations of land for new development as well as setting out the policies against which planning applications for development and change of use will be assessed.

A spokeswoman for the council said: “Comments on the Sites and Policies Development Plan Document (DPD) can be made until 4.30pm on Friday June 21.

“Only representations received within this period have a statutory right to be considered by the inspector at the subsequent public inquiry which is likely to be held in the spring of 2014.”

The authority estimates it will need to build 390 homes a year up to 2024, a target it has not been able to meet in the last couple of years because of the economic downtown.

It is putting together a planning blueprint, earmarking sites suitable to build the 4,000 homes and other development which it is estimated will be needed in the district in future.

Representations should be submitted on the response form which is available to download from www.harrogate.gov.uk/LPConsult or by contacting the planning policy team. Completed response forms should be returned to: Planning Policy Team, Department of Development Services, Harrogate Borough Council, Knapping Mount, West Grove Road, Harrogate, HG1 2AE. In addition, documents can also be viewed at libraries throughout the district.
