Final curtain for live music venue

A LEGENDARY Leeds music venue is to close after 20 years.

The Well, formerly known as Joseph’s Well, at Chorley Lane, which has played host to top bands such as The Killers, will close at the end of December.

A statement on the venue’s website said: “We are truly and utterly devastated.

“We have spent the last six months investing in the property and rebuilding this amazing live music venue.

“We are so proud of everything we’ve achieved.”

Popular Leeds band Kaiser Chiefs played their first gig at The Well back in 2003.

Keyboard player Nick Baines said: “I used to work behind the bar. It had a community and family feeling to it.

“It’s a massive shame and we had many great nights there. It will be missed.”

The Well was previously shut in March after issues with soundproofing, hours and beer prices.

Local pub landlords Simon and Sharon Colgan, who run The Duck and Drake in Leeds, then took it over.

Gigs will continue until the end of December. Pullan’s, the property firm that owns the building, was not available for comment.
