Final cut for disgraced Woods

Confirmation of their split comes nine months after Woods crashed into a fire hydrant outside the family home near Orlando, an incident which proved a precursor to a series of lurid revelations about the golfer's infidelities.

A string of women came forward alleging affairs and in February Woods publicly apologised for being unfaithful.

In a statement, the couple said last night: "We are sad that our marriage is over and we wish each other the very best for the future. While we are no longer married, we are the parents of two wonderful children and their happiness has been, and will always be, of paramount importance to both of us.

"Once we came to the decision that our marriage was at an end, the primary focus of our amicable discussions has been to ensure their future well-being. The weeks and months ahead will not be easy for them."

The 34-year-old star lost a string of endorsements as his infidelities emerged and, amid the furore, Woods took a five-month break from the game and has since struggled to return to form.
