Final goodbye before historic ground is kicked into touch

Fans can bid a final goodbye to Hull City’s former home this Saturday before it disappears for good under a new housing development.

Hull City is organising former players to be at Boothferry Park and expect hundreds of fans to turn up to commemorate the milestone in the club’s history.

George Hudson, Hull City’s marketing and media manager, said he hoped for a good turnout: “Although it is rubble now it will be dust very soon.

“This is the final goodbye.”

Doncaster-based developer Strata Homes will begin to build houses on the Boothferry Park site next year.

The stadium has stood vacant for nearly a decade after the Tigers moved to the KC Stadium.

Outline planning permission was granted to Paloma Land Ltd in 2005, but the development stalled and the ground became a target for looters and arsonists.

As well as building a mix of 234 flats and two and three-storey houses, the site’s long history will be reflected in names of streets and open spaces.

Mr Hudson added: “We were really impressed that one of the first things that Strata did on purchasing the site was to phone us to talk about the site’s heritage.”

The first phase of new homes will be released for sale in the spring, with completions planned for the autumn. The 234 homes will be built over seven years on the 10-acre site, with two bed homes starting from around £99,950.

Gates open at 11.15am, with entry from North Road and fans will be able to have individual photos taken with former stars, and take part in a group shot. Gates close at noon.
