Fire crews called out through night after spike in South Yorkshire arson attacks

Firefighters were called out through the night after a spike in arson attacks on vehicles in South Yorkshire.

The first incident happened 7pm on Monday night, when firefighters from Cudworth were called to a Ford Focus on fire on Crookes Lane in Carlton, Barnsley.

Then at 7.15pm, crews from Maltby attended a Ford Transit van on Stainton Lane in Stainton, Doncaster.

There were also arson attacks on a 4×4 Mitsubishi near Smithy Wood Road, Chapeltown and at at 5.30am today (Tuesday) firefighters were called after a VW Golf was set alight on Vauxhall Road, Sheffield.

The fire service has issued a warning following the spike in arson attacks.

Steve Helps, Head of Prevention & Protection said; “Arson attacks such as these take up a large amount of our resources when they could be needed at life-threatening emergencies. These fires have the potential to spread to properties and could put lives at risk.
