Fire crews rescue woman - from oil tin
IT RANKS as one of the more unusual rescues which has been carried out by fire crews in Yorkshire.
A woman had to be freed yesterday after her hand became wedged in a tin of olive oil as she reached into a vat to remove part of a pump. The woman, from Braithwell in South Yorkshire, escaped with minor cuts after crews used metal cutters and pliers to bend back the metal so she could remove her fingers.
A spokesman for South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue said: “Rescuing someone from a tin of olive oil is certainly a first for us.”
The South Yorkshire brigade carries out more than 1,400 “special service” rescues each year – from animal rescues and road traffic crashes, to flooding and lift releases.
