Fire wrecks second-hand car firm

FIRE destroyed a family-run second-hand car business in West Yorkshire at the weekend.

Six fire crews from across the Brigade were called to the Motorzone car showroom in Horsefair, Pontefract, on Saturday night.

Fire crews spent all night fighting the flames, which were brought under control by yesterday morning.

The entire one-storey building was on fire when crews arrived.

Appliances attended from as far away as Gipton in Leeds and Elland, near Halifax.

It is believed that 17 cars were destroyed, ranging in value from £500 up to around £6,000. The company has four employees.

One of the directors of the business, Mohammed Hamid, said: “It is very upsetting. We have worked hard to make a name in the area, to build it up. All of a sudden, we have this. It obviously affects you.

“We have put so much time and effort in and this has demolished everything.”

He confirmed that the business was insured.
