Firefighters called to former Yorkshire Post site

Firefighters were called to the site of the former Yorkshire Post building this evening.

A crew was dispatched from Leeds Central fire station to the Wellington Street site at around 7.20pm.

They used a bucket of water to extinguish a small smouldering piece of rubbish on the side of the clock tower.

It was a welcome change of pace for firefighters after the previous evening’s call to tackle the blaze at the former Majestyk nightclub further along the road.

One fire engine attended the scene, and despite photographs circulating on Twitter, firefighters described the minor incident as “something of nothing”.

It was believed a dying ember from the Majestic building may have been carried onto the side of the tower by the wind.
