Firework blamed for blaze

A STRAY firework has been blamed for a barn fire in North Yorkshire which destroyed farm machinery including a combine harvester.

Two crews from York and Acomb were called out to the blaze at the farm in Stockton on the Forest, to the north of York.

A brigade spokeswoman confirmed the contents of the barn, which included the combine harvester, had been destroyed by the fire that happened at about 10.15pm on Friday.

An inspection of the scene which was overseen by a senior fire officer concluded the cause of the blaze was believed to have been a stray firework from a nearby display.
