Firm appeals over history of new home

STAFF at insolvency specialists Wilson Field are trying to discover the history behind their new offices at The Manor House in Ecclesall Road South, Sheffield.

Business finance specialist Phil Meekin said he wants to find out who the house was built for, what it was used for and if anyone interesting has lived there, adding: "I have been doing a bit of research and think that the Manor House dates back to 1640 and could have been built by the wealthy and influential Stephen Bright from Carbrook.

"He became Lord of the Manor of Ecclesall in 1638, so it makes sense that he would build a new home.

"The front of the building has a plaque dated 1888 so it seems that someone extended the building and then wanted to make it look like a new property."

Mr Meekin said he also wonders if artist James Poole is linked to the building and said it was a privilege to be in such a landmark building. Anyone with any information should call 0114 2356780.
