Firms’ chance to set out stall over market

COMPANIES are being invited to express their interest in taking on a £21.5m contract to build a new marketplace and retail units in The Moor, one of Sheffield’s main shopping streets.

The long-delayed scheme will provide a 200-stall indoor market to replace the run-down Castle Market.

The project also involves building six large new shops to front onto The Moor.

Sheffield Council leader Julie Dore said: “By the end of 2013 we should have a brand new market on The Moor.

“This has been a long time coming and I’m excited that in the current climate here in Sheffield we are still taking our city’s transformation forward.”

Ranald Phillips, director of Ashcroft – asset managers for The Moor’s landlord, Scottish Widows Investment Partnership Property Trust – said: “This will form part of the first phase of a comprehensive regeneration programme for The Moor, to restore it as one of the city’s most important retail locations.”
