Firms encouraged to sign-up for marathon

A TEAM from the Council for British Archaeology will be digging deep into their energy reserves to take part in a gruelling challenge.

It is among a host of companies and organisations who have signed up for the James Potter Eggs Yorkshire Marathon Corporate Relay.

Hundreds of people from companies, clubs and groups will be bidding to be crowned Yorkshire’s fastest on October 20 when they take on the relay – part of The Plusnet Yorkshire Marathon being held in York. Legal companies, major manufacturers, groups of friends, and banks are among those to have already secured their relay places.

Six of the Council for British Archaeology’s York-based staff are taking part in the event to raise money for the Young Archaeologists’ Club.

Team captain, Rachel Mort, said yesterday: “Everything is going well and we have already started to raise money. It will be a great event and we are looking forward to it.”

General entries for the marathon quickly sold out when it was launched earlier this year but entries are still welcome for the corporate event at www.theyorkshiremarathon.com

Entry into the corporate relay is £300 for a team of six with relay distances ranging from 2.5 to 6.5 miles.

The Plusnet Yorkshire Marathon is being staged by a new company under the Jane Tomlinson’s For All Events umbrella – the legacy of the late fundraiser who raised almost £2m for charity while terminally ill.
