First jockey to win BBC sports title

JUMP jockey AP McCoy was last night crowned BBC Sports Personality of the Year.

The 36-year-old, who won the Grand National this year on Don't Push It, was the bookmakers's favourite for the award.

McCoy, from County Antrim, Northern Ireland has been the champion jockey 15 times and is the first jockey to win the BBC award.

He has ridden more than 3,000 winners. Runner-up was darts player Phil Taylor, and Sheffield heptathlete Jessica Ennis came third.
