First woman appointed to lead Royal Mail

THE head of Canada Post has been named as the first female chief executive of the Royal Mail.

Moya Greene will take up the post in July, replacing Adam Crozier, who left the organisation earlier this year to join ITV.

Royal Mail chairman Donald Brydon said: "I am delighted that Moya is joining Royal Mail. She will bring energy, clear thinking and a proven leadership track record, as well as hugely relevant experience, to the business at an important moment in its evolution."

Ms Greene said she was "honoured to be joining such a great company".

Royal Mail also announced the appointment of two women, both with experience in consumer oriented businesses, as non-executive directors.

Orna Ni-Chionna is senior independent director of Northern Foods, a non-executive director of HMV, and chairman of the Soil Association.

Cath Keers is a non-executive director of Telefonica Europe and The Children's Mutual. She was previously customer director and marketing director of O2.

Minister for Postal Affairs Edward Davey said: "I'm delighted that someone with such a strong track record will be leading Royal Mail through these demanding times and look forward to working with Moya and the two new non-executive directors as the Government takes forward its Postal Services Bill."

The Communication Workers Union this week pledged to fight any move to part-privatise the Royal Mail, with industrial action if necessary.
