Fishing for complements

TROUT were released into the River Sheaf in Sheffield’s Millhouses Park yesterday afternoon, after being raised by schoolchildren in the city.

In January, tanks containing up to 150 tiny brown trout were installed at five primary schools in Sheffield by officers from the organisation Groundwork, as part of their “Windows to Waterway” wildlife project.

As the fish are now 10cm long and large enough to live in the wild, they were released into the river by the schoolchildren yesterday. Education officer Matthew Ross, above with some of the fish, said: “It’s great for the children to be able to see the fish grow and to play a role in helping out a native species.”
