Fit for the queen: Molly, 13, chosen to sing at big Jubilee event

The 13-year-old Wakefield Cathedral chorister will sing in The Diamond Choir at the Queen’s Thanksgiving Service at St Paul’s Cathedral on June 5.

Molly said: “It’s such an honour that I get to sing for the Queen, and the music is great. I’m really excited and looking forward to the whole experience, especially seeing Prince Harry.”

The Wakefield Girls’ High School pupil beat off stiff competition from 1,300 applicants and 400 youngsters who took part in auditions to gain one of the sought after places.

Tom Moore, Wakefield Cathedral’s director of music, said: “Here at the cathedral we are very proud of what Molly has achieved. She works hard as a chorister in the cathedral choir, and the opportunity she has been given is well deserved.

“It is excellent that the choir of Wakefield Cathedral is being represented at this level in what is a national celebration.”

Molly, from Horbury, will join the choristers of St Paul’s Cathedral and the Boys of the Chapel Royal to perform The Call of Wisdom, a newly-commissioned work by British composer Will Todd for the Queen and senior members of the Royal Family at the service due to be televised live by the BBC.

Molly’s mother, Roz Cochrane, said her family were very proud and honoured Molly had been chosen. “She just loves to sing, she never stops singing,” she said.
