Five held after police raid on cannabis farm

POLICE have smashed a drugs ring after a raid on a house in North Yorkshire being used as a cannabis farm which resulted in five arrests and the recovery of substances with a street value of nearly £100,000.

The large, four-bedroom farmhouse near Easingwold had been targeted by North Yorkshire Police's Organised Crime Unit investigating large-scale cannabis growing in the area.

Officers raided the address and found the whole of the upstairs floor taken over with cannabis plants and cultivation equipment.

About 160 mature cannabis plants with an estimated street value of

about 96,000 were seized, along with hydroponics equipment and a number of vehicles, the force said.

Three men were arrested at the property and one man nearby. They are aged 20, 41, 43 and 58.

Further raids in the York area led to the seizure of more plants and a 21-year-old man being detained.

The five, all from York area, were bailed pending further inquiries.
