Five held in York cannabis raid

Five men have been arrested after cannabis plants believed to be worth about £96,000 were found in a farm house near York.

About 160 plants, cultivation equipment and vehicles were seized during a police raid on the four-bedroom house in the Easingwold area on Friday morning.

Four men, aged 20, 41, 43 and 58, were arrested at, or near, the property and a 21-year-old man was arrested during further searches in York, in which more plants were seized.

All the men were questioned on suspicion of drugs offences and have been bailed while inquiries continue.

North Yorkshire Police said the whole of the upstairs floor of the house had been taken over with cannabis plants and cultivation equipment.

Detective Chief Inspector Helen Taylor said: "North Yorkshire Police strive to protect our communities from the harm that drugs cause.

"We will do all we can to disrupt the flow of drugs on to our streets and this latest operation sends a clear message to those involved in criminality that their illegal activity will not be tolerated.
