Five men banned from bars in tourist village

ROWDY revellers have been banned from bars in the village of Haworth.

Five men were barred from pubs in Haworth by the police-backed Haworth Pubwatch following the latest meeting.

They have all been banned as part of a drive to discourage already rare incidents of poor behaviour and maintain high levels of safety in the pubs ahead of the forthcoming tourist season.

The five are: Two men, both aged 25, from Haworth; another two aged 27 and 22 from Keighley; and a 44-year-old from Oxenhope.

They were given their marching orders for alleged offences including disorder, poor behaviour and alleged drug taking.

The men who have been banned were done so unanimously following a meeting of Pubwatch landlords, and all were served letters in person by officers from the Bingley and Worth Neighbourhood Policing Team.

Pubwatch was introduced in Haworth last year in partnership between local landlords and publicans and has been well received by both revellers and people involved in the licensing trade.

Pub managers who have made a request have also been issued with a quantity of “spikeys” by the police. They are a stopper, which can be used by customers to prevent their drinks being spiked.

Insp Andy Croasdale, of the Bingley and Worth NPT, said: “Haworth was already a pretty safe place to spend the evening but I`m pleased to see that the recent introduction of the Haworth Pubwatch has made it safer still.

“As a popular tourist village it is also important that visitors can be confident in having a safe and enjoyable evening out in Haworth as the busy spring and summer seasons begin.

“These five bans are good for the local community, good for visitors and good for business.”

Insp Croasdale added that while officers had not received any reports of drink spiking in Haworth, the neighbourhood policing team was happy to work with landlords to put safeguards in place and reassure drinkers.
