Five more retailers ready to open at new shopping centre

FIVE more stores are to open at Wakefield’s new shopping centre, it was announced yesterday.

The last week has seen a flurry of new appearances at Trinity Walk – with Argos, River Island, Pulp, Panini Shack and Pizza Express, all opening their doors.

The city’s new centre already includes Debenhams, as well as a 117,000 sq ft Sainsbury’s, fashion retailers H&M, New Look, Next, Peacocks, Topshop, Topman, Republic, JD, Bank, Dorothy Perkins and Burtons and many more.

Centre manager Susan Mendoza said: “These new openings are fantastic additions to the great line-up here at Trinity Walk.

“We’ve had a tremendous response from Wakefield shoppers over the past few weeks since we opened.

“Nearly 30 stores have already opened their doors and the centre will see one or two new stores opening every week for the next few months. It is certainly a very exciting time at Trinity Walk.”

Opened at the beginning of last month, Trinity Walk is the first major retail centre in the country to welcome shoppers since the economic downturn began.

Although construction started in 2007, building work came to at standstill in early 2009 when Trinity Walk Wakefield went into administration following the withdrawal of funding by Anglo Irish Bank. The centre remained half-built for months but work resumed after a replacement consortium came to the rescue.

This group – which comprises AREA Property Partners, Sovereign Land and Shepherd Construction – took over the project.

It now includes more than 60 different retail units and parking for more than 1,000 cars.
