Five police may face charges in
tragedy probe

FIVE Humberside police officers could face charges following an investigation by the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) into the death of a 57-year-old man.

David Hill died at Grimsby police station on May 21, last year after being arrested at his home in New Waltham, Grimsby, on charges of criminal damage and affray.

The actions of five officers –two who arrested Mr Hill and three custody officers – have been referred to the Crown Prosecution Service to determine whether there is evidence that warrants criminal charges, the IPPC said.

Mr Hill and his wife Georgina had just returned from a week-long holiday with Grimsby Fellwalking and Climbing Club. He suffered from diabetes, according to club members.

The couple were described as the “life and soul of the party”.
