Five things to do in Yorkshire this weekend

There is much to explore in Yorkshire this weekend, catering for a variety of interests. You can go on a bird walk in beautiful surroundings or teach kids to perform with instruments. There's also wine tasting on offer, a chance to view a music photography exhibition, and writing lessons.

Here we take a look at five things that you might like to do in Yorkshire this weekend...

Winter Bird Walk (Sunday - 11am, Fountains Abbey)

Take a two-mile walk around the estate to see the birds that make Fountains their home during winter time. The venue - including the Cistercian abbey, Georgian water garden and medieval deer park - has been recognised as a World Heritage Site. The meeting place for this event is at the visitor centre. Concord AllStars music lessons (Saturdays, Sheffield)

New members are welcome for the junior marching band in Sheffield, which comprises of children aged between eight and 12. Lessons are offered in brass, percussion and dance - plus an opportunity to perform as a musical ensemble. Wine tasting, Hotel du Vin (Saturday - 11am to 4pm)

Saturday tastings are a great way to spend an enjoyable day learning about wine. The course is suitable for those wihtout previous wine tasting experience - but, with 12 to taste, even those with knowledge could learn something new. You can be taught here about grape varieties and which wines match best with certain foods. The minimum age for this event is 18 and the cost is £79.

Women in Music Photography Exhibition - Launch (Saturday - 8pm to 10.30pm, White Cloth Gallery)

JoJo, the DJ from Capital FM, hosts this event to celebrate the Getaway Girls’ exhibition launch. Getaway Girls is a Leeds charity which enables vulnerable young women, aged 11-25, to build confidence, develop new skills and take positive risks in an environment which offers co-operation and support. The photography exhibition will be on display at White Cloth Gallery this month and also in February.

Creative Writing at Weston Park (Saturday - 10.30am)
