Flaky’s happy character more than skin deep as fur returns

A PUPPY is now looking for a new home after recovering from a skin condition that left him almost completely bald.

Flaky, so-called because of his vicious skin complaint, cut a sorry sight when he was brought to the RSPCA after being found tied to a fence.

The Staffordshire bull terrier was suffering from demodectic mange, a skin disease, taking away his fur and leaving it looking more like a baby hippo than a dog.

But his rapid recovery has stunned his carers and the puppy is now searching for a new owner to take him home.

Mandy Miller, the manager at the RSPCA animal centre in Bradford, where Flaky is being looked after, said: “He looks completely different.

“His fur has grown back a lot quicker than expected, we thought it would take months and months.

“His progress had been absolutely brilliant. His was one of the worst cases I have seen of mange.

“He was getting two types of baths for his condition regularly in different solutions but we have now been able to cut the one for his fur growth completely because of his great recovery.

“When he was first brought in he was feeling really sorry for himself, a very sad case. But there has been such a change in character. He is really cheeky and playful. We are definitely seeing more of his natural traits now.

“He is a happy dog who loves affection. He is quite boisterous and will need a bit of training but he is a completely different dog from when he first arrived.”

She said anyone interested in adopting Flaky will be interviewed and given a home visit, and added: “For anyone interested he will make a really great pet but he will need a lot of attention.”

“He loves playing with his toys, he loves his food and going out for walks,” she added.

Anyone who can help is asked to call the Bradford branch of the RSPCA on 01274 723063.
