Floods latest - Knaresborough Duck Race is cancelled

After days of doubt, this year's Knaresborough Duck Race on New Year's day has been officially postponed as a result of the dreadful floods.

Mike Baxandall of organisers Knaresborough Cricket Club said the water levels and speed of river flow on the Nidd simply made it too risky to go ahead on New Year's Day as it does every year.

The race was to have been the culmination of a fantastic year of celebrations to mark the ci-centennial year of the Cricket Club, which has included special matches, a re-union for former players, a Golf Day and a Gala Dinner.

But Mike Baxandall said they hoped to run the race next weekend, possibly on the Sunday, January 10.

The race will raise money for Henshaws Society for Blind People and Knaresborough Cricket Club.

There have been record sales of corporate and ordinary tickets for ducks.

But tickets should also be available to buy on the day.
