The boy vanished after playing with friends in Locke Park, a mile away from the site and about two miles away from his home in Worsbrough. His death is believed to have been accidental.

Dozens of flowers and teddy bears were placed at the spot in Bank End Road in Worsbrough where the schoolboy’s body was discovered at 8.30am yesterday morning. He had reportedly become trapped in a pipe.

friends of Conley Thompson at this very difficult time.

“We especially want to send all the children who knew and were school friends with Conley, our love.

“Conleys big smile and sparkly eyes will stay in our hearts forever. Bank End Primary will not be the same in September without him.”

People have been visiting the site throughout the day and many of the notes have been left by other youngsters who described their friend as “sometimes bad” but who “would make me laugh”.

One card read: “RIP Conley. Fly with the angels. Gone too soon.”

Another tribute, written by a young girl, said: “To Conley, I will miss you. You were funny and sometimes bad but I didn’t care if you were bad at all.

“I wish you had a second chance but that isn’t true. You only have one life. When I found out I was upset.

“Everytime I saw you, you would make me laugh but now you are not there anymore to make me laugh only if you could be with us forever but you’re not.

“But you’re up in heaven now, where you can live a longer life up there with other people and will be able to make friends up there too!

“I will miss you. Love from Alisha xxx”.

A book of condolences has also been opened up in St Thomas’ Church next to the site and many have been paying tribute and describing how their thoughts are with Conley’s family and his mum, Paula.

People will be able to write in the condolences book for the next few days but the Church has not decided when a service will be held for the youngster.
