Flying Scotsman to haul excursion trains on Settle-Carlisle line this summer

Iconic locomotive the Flying Scotsman has made a return to the Settle-Carlisle railway this summer.

Yesterday the famous engine worked the Waverley excursion from York operated by the Railway Touring Company, and it has been booked to haul several more of the specials on Sundays throughout the summer.

The service departs York at 9.46am and stops at Appleby at 1.31pm, before arriving in Carlisle at 2.24pm. It returns at 4.16pm, stops at Appleby from 5.07-19pm and arrives in York at 9.19pm. Times when it will pass certain points along the route can be found by visiting www.realtimetrains.co.uk.

Posting on their Facebook page, the railway warned visitors:

"Remember to stay safe if you are visiting Settle-Carlisle country to watch one of the many steam-hauled excursions visiting this summer. Keep away from platform edges, do not trespass on the track and stay on the correct side of boundary fences."
