Food fans flock in to fill up at festival

FOOD lovers converged on Leeds at the weekend as the sixth Leeds Loves Food festival showcased a wide range of delicacies and delights from across the Yorkshire region.

This year’s festival included, for the first time, 100 stalls in a market place set up in Millenium Square. The Yorkshire Food and Drink Show, backed by the Yorkshire Post, included stalls selling cheeses, chutneys, ice cream, wine and beer, plus a number of kitchens with hot food.

There was also a kitchen theatre hosting a series of food demonstrations, cook-offs and competitions, involving some of Leeds’s favourite eateries, restaurants and bars.

Comedian Hardeep Singh Kohli took to the stage to showcase his skills, while the University of Leeds set up a special medieval kitchen.

The festival also featured A Taste of Spain, in the Victoria Gardens, which included food, music and activities from five of the country’s regions.

Leeds Loves Food is one of a clutch of festivals, including Leeds Loves Shopping and Leeds Loves Rugby, celebrating what the city has to offer.

It is organised by Marketing Leeds and Leeds City Council with support from the Hotel Association, city colleges and businesses.
