Hambleton Foodshare has amassed 600 cans of beans and has decided to give two to every person who donates any other foodstuff at an event next week.

Foodshare co-ordinator Margaret Brice said: “We are really grateful for all the donations but we are disappearing under the volume of baked beans – and in order to be able to offer variety in our emergency food rations we need to swap some of the tins for other products.

“Everyone who brings another product along to the swap session next weekend will go home with two tins of beans. So why not come along and join us – it won’t cost you a bean!”

The event takes place on October 25 from 10am until 12noon in Northallerton marketplace.
