Football club director ready for walk to raise money

HUDDERSFIELD Town's commercial director Sean Jarvis will have a bit of a walk on his hands to get to the club's final home game of the season.

He has pledged to walk from his house in Halifax to the Galpharm Stadium for the team's final home League game of the 2009/10 season against Colchester United on May 1 to raise money for the Keep It Up campaign.

Mr Jarvis took part in a cycle ride of over 250 miles from Huddersfield to Southend United's Roots Hall ground last year which raised over 50,000 towards the campaign that supports both the Yorkshire Air Ambulance and the Huddersfield Town Academy.

Now he is following that up with the slightly shorter seven mile journey from Halifax town centre to the Galpharm Stadium on the morning of Town's final home game of the normal League campaign.

Mr Jarvis said: "Although I managed to complete the bike ride to Southend back in August, I expect my walk on May 1st to be a different challenge.

"This is effectively our last chance this season to raise some much-needed money towards the Keep It Up campaign, so I hope everyone can back me or possibly join in."

The club is also encouraging fans to make their own way to the stadium on foot on May 1. Those wishing to take part need to pay 5 to register. Call Cammie Batten at Huddersfield Town on 01484 484140 or email [email protected].

Alternatively, people can join Mr Jarvis on his walk on the morning of the game – simply join him at the meeting point, the Bowling Green Pub, in Halifax town centre, at 10.30am on Saturday.

The Keep It Up campaign is a joint venture between the Huddersfield Town Academy and the Yorkshire Air Ambulance; for every 1 raised through the campaign, 50p goes to each cause. Since its inception in March 2009, almost 110,000 has been raised.

Earlier Huddersfield announced that worldwide film, stage and television superstar Sir Patrick Stewart has become president of the Academy.

A diehard Town fan, Mirfield-born Patrick – who was knighted in the Queen's New Year's honours list for his services to drama – will help the club to raise the profile of its youth system.
